Saturday’s Harvest

Saturday we visited our plot for the first time in over a week, and this is what we found. It’s quite a happy sight, isn’t it?  What you’re looking at is mustard greens, rainbow chard, golden beets and New Zealand spinach.  We’re drowning in green stuff. (Not as serene as the white stuff that’s burying our friends and family, but still pretty good.)

A close up view of that glossy chard.

I have more photos to show you, but Tumblr keeps telling me my file formats are invalid. So I guess you’ll have to wait to see the chives and Italian parsley our neighbor gave us… the behind-the-scenes (and under the seat) view of the stuff we keep stored in the corner… and the giant Trader Joe’s sack full of goodies we walked away with after an hour spent weeding and harvesting.

I know, I know… the suspense!

The funny thing is, we’re not exactly on a culinary high at the moment. Quite the opposite: we’re in Week 2.5 of The Subway Diet.  If Jared can do it, surely we can manage to get rid of a little extra Upstate New York weight.  Right?

Here’s a brief list of the wonders I’m trying to work off on a 1200-1500 calorie-a-day low-fat diet, combined with long walks, gym visits, Nintendo Wii, ice skating, yoga, and a Bollywood Dance DVD:

I better stop while I’m ahead.  Suffice it to say, it’s only January, but I’m already planning ahead for our summer in the Northeast.  Food here is light and airy. Food there could sink a battleship.
